National Guard To Deliver Walls!

Panelized walls for a Habitat for Humanity three-day build by the Home Builders Association of Saginaw (HBAS) are scheduled for delivery Friday October 26th between 9:30 and 10 a.m. to the site at 3141 State Street in Saginaw. The Walls were built to specifications by prisoners at the state prison in St. Louis, Michigan through the Michigan Prison Build Program. They will be delivered by a Michigan National Guard unit, the 1462nd transportation company out of Howell, Michigan.

"Partnerships like these are key to Habitat's success," notes John Perna, executive director of Saginaw Habitat for Humanity. "The support of the State prisons and the Michigan National Guard enables us to help more families and we are fortunate to have caring home builders in our community."

The HBAS is set to build the three-bedroom house commemorating Habitat for Humanity International's 25th Anniversary slated to begin Friday, November 2 at 7 a.m. and conclude Sunday, November 4. This is the second Habitat house built by HBAS in two years. Last year over 120 HBAS member businesses and volunteers built a house almost entirely with in-kind gifts - which are donated materials and labor - far exceeding the minimum $25,000 pledge.

The Home Builders Association of Saginaw is a member of the 205,000 member National Association of Home Builders. At the national level, the NAHB's Home Builders Care program emphasizes contributions to support affordable housing.

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and homelessness. HFHI has built over 100,000 houses in its 25-year history. Saginaw Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated 75 houses since its founding in 1987. Donations are tax-deductible.

Skilled and unskilled volunteers as well as coordinators are needed for year-round construction and support. If you are interested in volunteering, please go to volunteer skills interest form. Or contact the Saginaw Habitat for Humanity office at (989) 753-5200 to volunteer, or for any questions.
