Mission Statement:
Saginaw Habitat for Humanity is a Christian based, ecumenical housing ministry whose purpose is to build community by working with qualified families and helping them become owners of simple decent affordable homes – and by working with other local organizations, agencies and volunteers toward the elimination of sub standard housing in Saginaw county.
Beliefs and Values:
Saginaw Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization.
We follow the guiding principles of Habitat for Humanity
- Demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ to all people.
- Maintain the commitment of the people to people partnerships. Form and maintain grass roots partnerships in our community.
- Build simple, decent and affordable housing with people and families who are living in inadequate housing and unable to secure conventional financing.
- Be non-discriminatory in all matters; select partners according to need, willingness to work and ability to pay.
- Sell houses with no profit.
- Tithe 10% of cash donations.
- Use no government money for the construction of homes.
We believe:
- Every family has the right to simple decent affordable shelter.
- A simple decent home is a necessary ingredient for building strong families.
- Strong families are the backbone of good neighborhoods.
- Good neighborhoods are the cornerstone of strong, caring communities.
- SHFH can make it happen in Saginaw County.
Vision 2010:
Saginaw Habitat for Humanity is a dynamic, efficient, well-respected Christian housing ministry. We build simple decent homes. We are a catalyst in providing affordable housing in Saginaw County.
- We are good and careful stewards of our resources – money, goods & services, and volunteers.
- We are strongly supported by the faith community and receive active involvement from a large percentage of the houses of worship in Saginaw County.
- We have a family-selection process that effectively advises, refers, and selects applicants and provides a waiting list of qualified families; and we have a nurturing process that effectively prepares and mentors partner families.
- We have a strong fund-development program, which secures strong financial support from throughout the community.
- We have an efficient process with well-defined plans for our building efforts.
- We are actively involved in strong, productive collaboration with other area housing providers and are on target to eliminate poverty housing in saginaw county.
- We have adequate staff, supported by well-defined policies and procedures, and a dedicated Board of Directors.
- We have monitored and strengthened the neighborhoods where our partner families reside.
