2002 Blitz Bits!
- Six radio stations are lending their time and talent to the blitz. WSGW, WSAM, Eagle 97.3, Oldies96, Wheelz 104.5 & 101, and Z93.
- Pepsi is sponsoring the food tent for the second year and providing an assortment of beverages for workers, from water to pop to fruit juices. Last year the company pledged 700 cases of product and delivered on 1,000 cases (it was a hot-weather build).
- Covenant Health Care, for the third year in a row, is providing all the meals for the Saturday dates of the build - what amounts to five of the biggest number of volunteer meals served. An estimated 350 are served at lunch and 150 at dinner.
- 1,600 volunteers are expected to build the eight houses.
- Edna McIntynre, daughter of Sue, and Odahlia Rance again will coordinate the merchandise table volunteers inside the food tent. This year's official T-shirts are purple and white, and gold with dark green. Other items for sale include hats, socks, books and a Tony Stewart/Habitat race car.
- The Care-a-Vanner group, led by Wade and Linda Myers, have confirmed eight participants this year.
- St. John Lutheran Church, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary is hosting the Blitz Build. It acquired DNR property and donated it to SHFH. The church also will host Vacation Bible School during the second week of the blitz.
- Jay Samborn Entertainment will provide the music for Habitation, donating services for the forth year.
- Home Depot will again host Volunteer Appreciation Night August 29.
- Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse will give each Blitz volunteer a brochure with 10 percent off coupons good through 9/30/02
- McDonald's restaurants in Saginaw County will feature special Blitz tray liners during the month of June. Each offers a map of the Blitz Build, a volunteer checklist and a mission statement.
